Borussia Dortmund vs Manchester City: UCL Group Stage Match Preview, Predicted Line-ups and Dream11 Predictions

Manchester City will seal top spot in Group G of the Champions League if they can avoid defeat away to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.

Oct 25, 2022, 7:06 AM6 min read

Borussia Dortmund vs Manchester City is the upcoming UCL group-stage match as Manchester City are on the verge of sealing top spot in Champions League Group G.

Borussia Dortmund vs Manchester City: Match Preview

Manchester City will claim top spot in Group G if they manage to grab a positive result against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday. The Citizens came from behind to win the reverse fixture and will try to replicate that effort in this away clash.

Manchester City survived a scare as they could not get the best of FC Copenhagen in their last match. And they followed that up with their first loss this season at the hands of Liverpool. A reaction was necessary, and Brighton & Hove Albion were the subject of City's wrath. And a dominating performance from the English champions would have sent a warning to their opponent ahead of their clash.

— Manchester City (@ManCity) October 24, 2022

Dortmund will be oozing with confidence as they wrapped up their weekend with a thunderous 5-0 victory over VfB Stuttgart. Knowing a win will guarantee a spot in the next stage Edin Terzic will be adamant to see his team put up a statement display. They are currently five points adrift of Sevilla and want to ensure they do not leave it too late to complicate their own fate.

Manchester City's topsy-turvy Champions League campaigns over the years have kept Pep Guardiola pushing for that elusive title. But 2022/23 might be the year to break the jinx. For now, the Citizens will be focused at the task at hand to seal top spot in Group G this weekend.

Team News:

Borussia Dortmund:

Nico Schlotterbeck had to be hauled off with an ankle issue this past weekend, and the extent of his injury is still unknown. The German international is unlikely to be risked against Manchester City, and Niklas Sule should deputise in his absence.

Thomas Meunier, Sebastien Haller, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Mahmoud Dahoud and Mateu Morey are all sidelined and won't be available for this match. Donyell Malen and Marco Reus are also in the treatment room and will miss this game.

Gregor Kobel missed a large portion of Borussia Dortmund's initial few games. But since his return, he has been the preferred choice between the sticks. Sule will return to his natural position, and he will partner Mats Hummels at the heart of the Dortmund defence.

— Borussia Dortmund (@BlackYellow) October 24, 2022

Marius Wolf and Raphael Guerreiro will be given the responsibility to block Manchester City's advances from the wings. Emre Can will take Salih Ozcan's place in the middle of the park. The Turkish international will have to sit out this game after accumulating three cautions.

Jude Bellingham will operate from the midfield alongside Can. Karim Adeyemi and Giovanni Reyna will be taking their chances from the wings. Julian Brandt will reprise the number 10 role, and Youssoufa Moukoko will lead the line for Borussia Dortmund against Manchester City.

Manchester City:

Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips remain on the sidelines, while Sergio Gomez received his marching order against Copenhagen and he will not travel to Germany due to a suspension.

— Manchester City (@ManCity) October 24, 2022

Ederson Moraes recorded an assist against Brighton & Hove Albion. But Borussia Dortmund are unlikely to provide him much room. Ruben Dias should continue his partnership with Aymeric Laporte at the heart of the Manchester City defence, while Nathan Ake and Joao Cancelo will be the full-back duo.

Rodri will be relishing a tough challenge against Borussia Dortmund. The Spanish midfielder will have Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva to assist him in the defensive phases. And the two playmaker will look to provide the creative impetus in the final third.

— Manchester City (@ManCity) October 24, 2022

Phil Foden should start the game on the left wing, while Riyad Mahrez could get the nod on the right flank. Haaland is destined to start up front, and he will look to torment his former club again.

Borussia Dortmund vs Manchester City: Head to Head:

Manchester City have a good record against Borussia Dortmund and have won three out of the five matches played between the two teams, as opposed to Borussia Dortmund's one victory.

Borussia Dortmund's only victory against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League came by a 1-0 margin in the group stage of the 2012-13 campaign.

Manchester City are on a three-game winning streak against Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League and have won each match by a 2-1 margin.

Manchester City have won 14 of their last 16 UEFA Champions League matches against German teams but did lose their last such game away from home against RB Leipzig.

— Borussia Dortmund (@BlackYellow) October 24, 2022

Predicted Line-ups:

Borussia Dortmund Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1): Kobel; Wolf, Hummels, Sule, Guerreiro; Bellingham, Can; Adeyemi, Brandt, Reyna; Moukoko

Manchester City Predicted Lineup (4-3-3): Ederson; Cancelo, Dias, Laporte, Ake; De Bruyne, Rodri, Silva; Mahrez, Haaland, Foden

— Manchester City (@ManCity) October 24, 2022

Key Stats:

  • Borussia Dortmund have won just one of their five UEFA Champions League matches against Manchester City (D1 L3), a 1-0 home victory in the 2012/13 group stage. Manchester City have won their last three UEFA Champions League games against Borussia Dortmund, winning every outing 2-1. No side has ever beaten another by the same score in four consecutive games in the Champions League (Bayern Munich beat Arsenal 5-1 three in a row between 2015 and 2017).
  • Manchester City have won 14 of their last 16 UEFA Champions League matches against German teams (D1 L1) but did lose their last away game there 2-1 against RB Leipzig. The Citizens have won 16 games against German opponents in the competition, six more than against any other nation.
  • Borussia Dortmund have only lost two of their last 14 home games in the UEFA Champions League (W8 D4), although one of those defeats came against Manchester City in April 2021 (1-2 in the quarter-final second leg).
  • Only one team have prevented Borussia Dortmund from scoring in their last 20 games in the UEFA Champions League (0-4 vs Ajax in October 2021). The German giants have averaged 1.9 goals per game in this run, netting 38 times overall.
  • Across the first four matchdays in the UEFA Champions League this season, no player has been directly involved in more goals than Erling Haaland (five goals) or Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham (four goals, one assist).

Although fans have some time to wait before the Premier League 2025/26 season, the preparation for the teams is definitely underway. All the teams in the league have already revealed their home and away kits for the upcoming season.

While each kit will keep the team colours, there are always new ways to play with the look for both home and away.

Arsenal

Arsenal’s new kit for their men’s and women’s teams leans into nostalgia with the red shirt, trimmed with white shoulders and red detailing, featuring the letter 'A' on the badge at the forefront, in a reference to the 1990-91 title-winning season.

Aston Villa

The design includes nods to the home city of Birmingham, with design details inspired by the iconic Bullring, where the team has a new fan store.

AFC Bournemouth

The red and black stripes are a little broader than usual and the metallic gold trim adds a sprinkling of glitz. It's unlikely to make much of an impact outside of the immediate vicinity of the Vitality Stadium.

Brentford

Brentford's latest home shirt celebrates the 100th anniversary of the team adopting red and white stripes as their official club colours. Naturally, the design is just that, with the heritage faux lace-up collar being the only real retro appointment of note, a nod to the first batch of home jerseys worn by the Bees in 1925.

Brighton & Hove Albion

Rather than the standard yellow trim, this season's familiar blue-and-white stripes are accompanied by accents of minty turquoise, like the rails that run along the city's seafront.

After a few years of more experimental and off-piste designs, the Eagles' new home jersey features clean red and blue stripes with all the extra detailing picked out in white.

This one comes in a beautiful shade of creamy yellow and includes subtle references to the industrial heritage of the Bramley-Moore docklands, the site of the club's new stadium. The pattern on the sleeves references the old railway lines that ran in and out of the area and have since been reinstalled as a heritage attraction.

Keeping the typical sky blue colour, Man City have adopted a new look, with a white slash across the front and minimalistic emphasis on its sponsors.

Manchester United

This design is fairly traditional, with a solid red base and sparse black-and-white trim. However, the material does contain a subtle reference to Old Trafford via a smattering of dots and stripes.

Newcastle United

Newcastle United’s 2025/26 kit doesn’t just look good, but also does good, with £5 per shirt sold going to the Newcastle United Foundation.

A lovely bit of retro-infused handiwork from Danish brand Hummel here, who have used Sunderland's cult classic 1989-91 away kit as inspiration for a demure maritime-themed jersey that is covered in a pattern made up of local coastal landmarks, including the Roker Beach lighthouse.

In the world of football, few clubs stand out like Chelsea FC. Their trophy cabinet tells a story of incredible success, proving that they have truly won it all!

With their recent UEFA Conference League 4-1 victory over Real Betis, Chelsea completed a historic sweep of all major UEFA titles, topping up with their 2nd FIFA Club World Cup title, all in 2025.

Here is trophy cabinet of Chelsea FC that defines their successful journey in the football world. Take a look.

Chelsea have battled across the continent's most prestigious stages and won every major UEFA club trophy, a feat few clubs can claim.

Their crowning achivements including 2 UEFA Champions League titles, notable defeating Bayern Munich [1-1 (4-3 pens)] in 2012 and Manchester City (1-0) in 2021.

Beyond the Champions League, Chelsea also lifted the UEFA Europa League twice (2013, 2019), and the now-defunct UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1971, famously against Real Madrid in the replay, and also in 1998.

Additionally, two UEFA Super Cup victories (1998, 2021) further highlight their continental dominance.

The collection was completed with their 2025 UEFA Conference League triumph, where Chelsea FC beat Real Betis 4-1 in the final.

The domestic dominance of Chelsea FC

Beyond their European conquests, they have also established as masters of England by securing highest domestic honors.

The Blues clinched the First Division/Premier League title and impress six times (1955, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2015, 2017) along with eight FA Cup victories (1970, 1997, 2000, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2018). This makes them the competition's most successful team.

Their domestic dominance also extends to League Cup, which they have won five times in the following years: 1965, 1998, 2005, 2007, 2015.

Completing the Set: Global and Historic Honors

Chelsea's trophy cabinet truly lives upto the "won it all" status by having a collection of unique, historical, and global titles.

The FIFA Club World Cup win over Palmeiras (2-1) in 2021, made them only London club to win the Champions League as well as the FIFA Club World Cup. More recently, they added their 2nd CWC title after a dominating 3-0 victory over PSG in 2025.

Further adding to their phenomenal collection are four Charity/Community Shield triumphs (1955, 2000, 2005, 2009), which mark their traditional early-season dominance.

As we move down to the final count, Chelsea also holds two Full Members' Club Victories (1986, 1990).

RCB moves Karnataka HC seeking to quash stampede case | sportzpoint.com

On June 4, 2025, what was meant to be a joyous celebration of Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) IPL victory turned into a horrific tragedy outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. A stampede occurred amidst massive crowds attempting to gain entry for the victory festivities, resulting in the deaths of 11 individuals and leaving numerous others injured.

The incident prompted immediate outrage and questions regarding crowd management, event planning, and accountability. Police subsequently filed an FIR against RCB, the event management firm DNA Entertainment Networks, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), alleging various offenses including culpable homicide not amounting to murder and criminal negligence. Several individuals, including RCB's marketing head, were arrested in connection with the case.

Legal Challenges and Court Observations

In response to the criminal case, Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited (RCSPL), the entity managing RCB, along with DNA Entertainment Networks and some of their officials, have approached the Karnataka High Court seeking to quash the FIRs. Their petitions contend that they have been falsely implicated and that the incident was not a result of their direct actions.

The petitions are being heard by Justice SR Krishna Kumar. During recent hearings, Justice Kumar has made observations, noting that it is "premature" to definitively conclude that RCB's social media posts inviting the public were the sole or primary trigger for the stampede.

The court has also urged the State not to make further arrests of RCB or DNA officials until the next hearing, signifying a cautious approach to the ongoing legal proceedings.

The State, however, has argued that RCB's invitations led to an uncontrolled gathering, far exceeding the stadium's capacity, contributing to the chaos. The investigation is ongoing, with a Special Investigation Team formed to probe the circumstances.

European treble winners in men's football history

Till now, 9 European clubs (Under UEFA) have managed to win a treble, which includes the premier national league competition, the main national cup competition, and the UEFA Champions League/UEFA Europa League.

Jun 2, 2025, 11:42 AM13 min read

European treble winners in men's football history

In football, a team wins a treble when they win three major trophies in a single season. Winning the continental treble means winning the premier national league competition, the main national cup competition, and the main continental trophy, for UEFA, which is the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League.

Though winning the Europa League is also considered a treble, it is not accepted wholeheartedly by the pundits and fans as winning the UEFA Champions League.

Till now, 9 European clubs have been able to win the continental treble. Before we discuss all the European treble winners in men's football history, we must know about the types of Trebles we have in football.

Barcelona is the only club to win multiple trebles with both their men's and women's team, completing the feat in 2024.

Continental treble

This is considered the actual treble in football where a team go on to win the national league, national cup competition and the main continental trophy. Celtic Football Club in 1966-67 became the first team in football history to win a Continental treble. Till now, 22 men's teams have won the Continental Treble, with 30 being the total number of times. In Europe, only 8 football teams have been able to accomplish the feat.

Domestic treble

Generally, for most of the footballing nations, winning a domestic treble is not possible since they do not allow first-division teams to win any secondary cup or league. A domestic treble includes winning three national competitions, including the national league title, the national cup competition, and one secondary competition. Countries which were under British or French possessions once allowed domestic trebles to happen. Celtic with 8 domestic trebles, and Rangers, with 7, are the most successful teams when it comes to winning domestic trebles.
