Daniele De Rossi to stay as AS Roma coach permanently

Daniele De Rossi was appointed as the head coach of the club in January this year after the sacking of Jose Mourinho. He will now continue as the permanent head coach, the club confirmed.

Daniele De Rossi, the interim head coach of the AS Roma football club has now been given a permanent contract as the head coach of the club, the club confirmed on Thursday. As per the club, he will now continue beyond the end of the season. 

The 40-year-old former midfielder and captain was made the club coach in January 2024 after the sacking of Jose Mourinho. 

After his takeover, the club won 11 of the 16 games and lost only once, which helped them rise to number five position in the Serie A points table from 9th place.

Rossi had a positive impact on the club 

AS Roma owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin have confirmed that they want to build a long-term partnership with Rossi and Rossi had a positive impact on the club so far. 

The owner's statement stated, “After meeting yesterday afternoon with Daniele De Rossi, we are delighted to announce he will continue as head coach of AS Roma after this season and for the foreseeable future.

“In his short tenure as head coach, the positive impact that his leadership has brought to the entire club has told its own story.

“Daniele leads with respect and courage, while his strength and deep-rooted belief in the club are truly aligned with Roma’s values, city and unparalleled fans.

“We will continue to work together as hard as we possibly can to deliver a future that AS Roma’s fans deserve. We couldn’t be happier to build a long-term project with Daniele.”

Roma, currently playing in the quarter-finals of the Europa League, have a 1-0 goal advantage over AC Milan. They will play their second leg on Friday (Indian Standard Time). 

Rossi, during his career, played 616 games for Roma in a career spanning over 18 years. He also won two Coppa Italia titles during that period with the club.
