Finally, the Nigerian U17 Women's team makes it to the semi-finals of the U17 Women's World Cup. In their fourth appearance in the Quarter-finals, Nigeria upset the might USA to go through to the semis. They defeated USA in the penalty shoot out as Edet Offiong, Etim Edidiong and Edafe Omamuzo scored in the penalties for Nigeria. In the first half, Edafe scored the penalty as well. Nigeria was given a penalty after Ella Emri conceded a foul in the box on Amina Bello. However, USA equalisied on the 40th minute from a goal by Amalia Villarreal, her first of the tournament. For Nigeria, it was a bit of fortune along with good tactics by coach Bankole to substitute his penalty shootout specailsists just before the last minute of the game.
