In the Latest I-League News, Sreenidi Deccan FC despite finishing third in their first ever I-League campaign under coach Fernando Varela, parted ways with him earlier. Carlos Vaz Pinto has now been appointed as their new manager.
Pinto has managed eight teams in the past ten years of his managing career across four different countries – in Portugal, Angola, Ethiopia and Kenya. His last stint was with CD Nacional, a Portuguese second division club as an assistant coach which lasted only a few months just like his stint before that with Gor Mahia.
The 47-year-old managed Recreativo da Caála and led them to the final of the Angola Cup in 2012 where they were defeated by one goal. In 2016 he joined Recreativo do Libolo another Angolan club and took them to the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Carlos Vaz Pinto was the head coach of Gor Mahia only for six months but under his tenure, the Kenya-based club won FKF Shield Cup, a top knockout-based tournament in Kenyan football.
Gor Mahia were 16th in the league position when Carlos was appointed as the head coach and in six months' time, he took them to the fourth position along with winning the FKF Shield Cup.
Sreenidi Deccan FC has lost their key defender Lalchungnunga to East Bengal but on the other side, have managed to extend the contract of their forward David Castaneda Munoz and young goalkeeper Aryan Lamba.
Sreenidi Deccan FC, backed by a well-accomplished coach in Pinto and a strategic technical director for the upcoming I-League season, will look to be back stronger next time aiming to win the I-League trophy.
