The conclusion of this ISL 2021-22 is almost here and 9 teams are in contention to make it to the play-offs.
Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) has announced the schedule for the ISL 2021-22 semi-finals and final. The semi-final first leg will be on March 11 and March 12. The second legs are scheduled on March 15, and March 16.
The venue for the final is Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Goa.
The battle of 9 teams
Even though the finals are nearing, the league table is still facing some serious competition from 9 out of 11 teams. With SC East Bengal and NorthEast United out of this picture; the remaining 9 teams are still trying to engrave themselves on the top 4 spots.
Unlike last season, the competition is pretty tough this year as the point differences are not too much between the teams. The league competition is going to end on 7th March and Hyderabad FC is sitting at the top with 29 points and FC Goa is one of the 9 teams with 18 points. With just 11 points gap between the first and the ninth, the competition is not yet over. The team finishing on top of the table will be crowned winners of the League Shield, earning a direct group-stage entry into the AFC Champions League next season.
The 'away goal' rule will not apply in the semi-finals this season. Teams with the highest goal aggregate in their respective two-legged ties will march on to the final.
