Sunil Chhetri is having not the greatest start to this season's ISL. After making 7 appearances and 515 minutes played. The Bengaluru FC striker is yet to find the net and also to provide an assist to kick off his ISL Stats this season.
Sunil Chhetri is widely known for being prolific in front of goals, who always finds a way to score. He has 47 goals to his name and sits second on the all-time top-scorer list after Ferran Corominas in ISL. However, in this season, he has not been at his best inside the penalty box and has also missed two spot-kicks.
Bengaluru FC coach Marco Pezzaiuoli took off Chhetri earlier against Kerala Blasters around the 60-minute mark and surprisingly dropped him from the starting XI in their last match against ATK Mohun Bagan.
"It's not about Sunil Chhetri. I think it was a good chance for this game. It (also) depends upon players' injury, who is playing well, we have a good squad," Marco Pezzaiuoli on him.
ISL Stats:Sunil Chhetri and his previous goal droughts
However, this is not his first time suffering from a lack of goals. In his ISL Stats, He failed to score in seven consecutive matches twice (between November 2018 and January 2019 & November 2015 and December 2015).
In 2015, during his time in Mumbai City FC, he took 769 minutes to get his first goal. His strike against FC Goa from the spot in the 33rd minute on October 25 was his first goal. He later found the net again on December 4 against ATK FC in the 82nd minute of the match.
Whereas, in 2018-19, he took 728 minutes to break his goalless streak. On November 22, he scored the winner against Goa. Since then it took him 76 days to get on the scoresheet again. This time it was a late equalizer against Kerala Blasters that helped the Blues to avoid defeat.

Mohun Bagan Super Giants | 2024-25 | 14 Goals conceded:
The record for the least goal conceded in an Indian Super League season is held by Mohun Bagan SG in the 2024-25 season, where they conceded only 14 goals in the league stage. This kind of milestone highlighted their well-organized defense and disciplined tactics.
1. Mohun Bagan SG had a solid backline with experienced defenders like Subhasish Bose, Tom Aldred, and Alberto Rodriguez who maintained excellent positioning and awareness.
2. The team's strategy under their coach Jose Molina, focused on compact defending and quick transitions.
3. Vishal Kiath's reliable performance played a crucial role in ensuring the team did not concede unnecessary goals.
4. Defending is not just about defenders, midfielders and attackers also contribute by pressing opponents and blocking passing lanes.
Hyderabad FC had one of the most balanced teams in the Indian Super League 2022-2023 season, combining attacking flairs with a strong defensive setup. Their defenses, led by experienced players, conceded only 16 goals in the ISL league stage. They reached the Cup semifinals but lost to ATK Mohun Bagan on penalties.
Bengaluru FC, under Carles Cuadrat, was known for their defensive strength. During the 2019-2020 season, Carles Cuadrat's managed side only conceded 16 goals, matching Hyderabad FC's previous record. They played a tight defensive game, focusing on the structure and discipline of their defensive performance.
Other Defensive Performances in Indian Super League History:
ATK Mohun Bagan | 2020-2021 & 2022-23: Conceded only 19 goals in the league stage and went on 2022-2023 to win the title in the 2021-2022 season they reached the final but lost in the final 2-1 by Mumbai City FC.
Atletico De Kolkata | 2019-2020: Had a rock-solid defense during their title-winning campaign against.
Hyderabad FC | 2020-2021: Showed great defensive discipline, which helped them to conquer their first Indian Super League title.
Mohun Bagan SG's record of only conceding 14 goals in the 2024-25 season is evidence enough that defense is highly regarded in football. Their tally is also better than Hyderabad FC and Bengaluru FC both of whom laid claim to previously unassailable Indian Super League defensive records.
Attacking football is great for fans, but history shows that it’s often a strong defense that takes teams to the title. It will only get better as ISL grows. Mohun Bagan Super Giants now holds the record for best defensive season in Indian Super League history, at least for now.
Most clean sheets in ISL History: Vishal Kaith registers his 49th clean sheet in ISL
Mohun Bagan SG keeper Vishal Kaith registered his 49th clean sheet in Indian Super League history, joining an elite list with Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and Amrinder Singh.
Significantly, it was Kaith's 49th clean sheet in ISL history, joining him with elite footballers such as Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and Amrinder Singh, who all have 49 ISL clean sheets to their name. However, Kaith has managed to touch the 49-mark in just 137 appearances.
Vishal Kaith can definitely demand his legend tag now, as he is leading the ISL 2024-25 Golden Glove race with 10 clean sheets in 18 appearances this season. He also won his maiden ISL Golden Glove in the 2022-23 season, with 11 clean sheets.

The current Mohun Bagan SG keeper started off his ISL career with FC Pune City in 2016, though he stayed on the bench as a third-choice keeper.
However, he made his ISL debut with Pune City in the following 2017 season, but after playing only four games, he failed to find his place in the starting eleven.
The turning point of Kaith's career was signing for Chennaiyin FC in 2019, when he kept four clean sheets in 20 appearances, being an integral part of the 2019-20 campaign. Chennaiyin fell short to ATK in the final, but Kaith made his first-ever major final appearance.
Kaith donned the Chennaiyin Jersey from 2019 to 2022.
However, joining Mohun Bagan SG ahead of the 2022-23 season skyrocketed his skills and excelled his performance between the sticks. Kaith kept 11 clean sheets in 24 appearances to win the ISL Golden Glove that season.
Since then, he has been the first-choice keeper for Mohun Bagan SG and has cemented his place in the starting eleven. This season, Kaith has already managed 10 clean sheets in just 18 appearances, and he will surely add more to his tally in the upcoming games.
The two-time ISL Golden Glove winner and Bengaluru FC keeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu has 49 clean sheets in 156 ISL appearances as of now. On the other hand, Odisha FC custodian Amrinder Singh has achieved the same feat in 179 appearances.
