The FIFA Club World Cup was first started back in 2000. Six winning teams from six confederations join the competition to fight for this prestigious trophy. Teams from UEFA, CONMEBOL, AFC, CAF, OFC, Copa Libertadores. There have been different winners in this competition every year except Real Madrid, who won it back to back 3 times from 2016-17 to 2018-19.
So let us have a look at the last five FIFA Club World Cup winners:
#5. Real Madrid (2017-18):
Real Madrid is the most successful club in this competition with the highest number of trophies. The defending champions of 2016-17 came back again in the next season defeated Grêmio 1-0 in the final. With this win, Real Madrid became the first team to successfully defend the title.
#4. Real Madrid (2018-19)
Again in the next year, Real Madrid came back into the competition after their triumph in the Champions League after defeating Liverpool FC. Real Madrid successfully defended their title for the third time after defeating Al-Ain 4-1 in the final. With this win, the Los Blancos have pushed Barcelona in second in terms of most number of titles.
#3. Liverpool FC (2019-20)
After failing to reach the tournament last year they suffered a 3-1 defeat against Real Madrid. However, the next season, The Reds came back strong and won the UCL title next season against Tottenham. Moreover, Liverpool reached the final in 2005 but lost to Sau Paulo. But in the 2019-20 edition Liverpool won the final 1–0 after extra time against Flamengo for their first FIFA Club World Cup title.
#2. Bayern Munich (2020-21)
The Bavarians waited for a long time for this competition to commence as it was postponed due to COVID19. However, Bayern Munich won the final 1-0 against UANL to win the FIFA Club World Cup title. This victory resulted in their second title win, the first one was in 2013. By winning the trophy, Bayern Munich became only the second club in European football history to complete the sextuple after FC Barcelona in 2009.
#1. Chelsea FC (2021-22)
The most recent winners of this competition are the English side Chelsea FC. However, this isn't their first appearance back in 2012, after winning the Champions League; Chelsea FC was up against the Brazilian side Corinthians in the FIFA Club World Cup Final which unfortunately they lost. But this season The Blues won the final 2–1 after extra time against Palmeiras for their first FIFA Club World Cup title.
