Wilfred Ndidi has returned to training ahead of Manchester City's visit but may not be tossed straight back into the XI considering an overly swift reintegration aggravated his hamstring injury in the first place.

Rodgers was also optimistic about Jonny Evans' availability but both fullbacks Ryan Bertrand (knee) and Ricardo Pereira (Achilles) remain long-term absentees.

Erling Haaland and Joao Cancelo were removed at half-time of City's goalless stalemate against Borussia Dortmund. Guardiola later revealed that both had been suffering from a fever. Haaland was also "so tired" and carrying "a knock on his foot" according to the Catalan coach.

Although the damage to Haaland's foot isn't thought to be serious, Guardiola may line up without the Norwegian in the Premier League for the first time this season.

Kalvin Phillips (shoulder) and Kyle Walker (groin) are continuing their recoveries in a bid to be available for England before next month's World Cup.
