Old Trafford saw unsavoury scenes on Sunday with protests reportedly causing the club shop to close and fans pictured brawling in the stands.
Now, '#EmptyOldTrafford' has started trending on Twitter as supporters prepare to boycott the North West derby with Liverpool on August 22.One wrote: "Enough is enough. #EmptyOldTrafford #GlazersOut #GlazersSellUnited"
Another said: "If you love Manchester United then stay out of Old Trafford. It is worth it lads #GlazersSellManUtd #EmptyOldTrafford"
And a third added: "My seat will be empty for the Liverpool game! Let's get this happening, the time is NOW!! #EmptyOldTrafford"
It comes 15 months after the same fixture was abandoned when hundreds of United fans stormed Old Trafford in protest against the Glazers' 17-year tenure.
Former director Michael Knighton recently revealed he is planning a hostile takeover bid to try and put fans out of their misery.
The 70-year-old, who served on United's board between 1989 and 1992, said: "Everyone knows that we need new ownership of this football club.
"That is my aim, those are my objectives."I'm making good progress, I continue to talk to the people, I've got some good pledges with good finance.
"We are now working on the offer document – remember, it's a hostile bid."
Manchester United have reportedly hit a stumble block in their efforts to sign Adrien Rabiot this summer.
The Red Devils initially agreed a £15 million fee which could rise with add-ons, but talks are stalling over the Frenchman's wage demands.
Meanwhile, United have seemingly progressed in negotiations with long-term target Frenkie de Jong after agreeing a deal with his agent.
