The unthinkable has happened, Lionel Messi is not going to continue in the Blaugrana colours next season. FC Barcelona’s official social media handle has informed that Messi is not staying at Barcelona. After so many speculations and rumours, finally FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi officially part ways.

However, FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi reached an agreement to sign a new contract this couldn’t happen because of financial obstacles.
The FC Barcelona’s Facebook post stated that:

“Despite the club and player reaching an agreement and their clear intention to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of financial and structural obstacles. “

“Despite FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi having reached an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of financial and structural obstacles (Spanish Liga regulations). “

“As a result of this situation, Messi shall not be staying on at FC Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will ultimately not be fulfilled.FC Barcelona wholeheartedly expresses its gratitude to the player for his contribution to the aggrandisement of the club and wishes him all the very best for the future in his personal and professional life.”

This will go down as one of the most disheartening transfer sagas of all time. People could hardly imagine Lionel Messi in any other colours than the Blaugrana. Although there were many reports of Messi’s contract renewal with FC Barcelona, no one could have predicted the end. However, where would Messi land next will be the talk of the town for the next few days.
