The English Premier League clubs collectively agreed on the 13th of April, to withdraw gambling sponsorship in front of their match day shirts. They became the first sports league to take such a step to prevent gambling. At present there are 8 premier league clubs who have gambling sponsorship on the shirts and this collective agreement will begin at the end of the 2025-26 season.

โ€œPremier League clubs haveย todayย collectively agreed to withdrawย gambling sponsorship from the front of clubsโ€™ matchday shirts, becoming the first sports league in the UK to take such a measure voluntarilyย in order toย reduce gambling advertising.โ€

โ€œThe announcement follows an extensiveย consultation involving the League, its clubsย and the Department for Culture, Media and Sportย as part of the Governmentโ€™s ongoing review of current gambling legislation.โ€

  • Bournemouth
  • Brentford
  • Everton
  • Fulham
  • Leeds
  • Newcastle
  • Southampton
  • West Ham

Though in country like Italy and Spain, the gambling sponsorship in front of the match day shirts already have been banned, still UK government to review the bann as their football clubs are in financial trouble in recent times.

English Premier leauge is one of the most viewed football league in television and it boosts the revenue as well. This announcement made them under pressure to enter in such a voluntary agreement. The premier league clubs are allowed to use gambling sponsorship untill the commencement of the ban and the present gambling companies will be in place for the next three years.

โ€œTheย Premierย League is also working with other sportsย on the development of a new code for responsible gambling sponsorship.โ€

โ€œTo assist clubs with their transition away from shirt-front gambling sponsorship, the collective agreement will begin at the end of the 2025/26ย season.โ€
