Two Premier League players are once again caught in a rape case. Two players, aged 19, have been accused of raping and assaulting the victim. Police raided the stadium before arresting the players and interrogating them.

Although both the accused were released on bail after interrogation, the police have made both of them accused in the case. The club for which both the players play has also indicated to take action against the players, but when and what action will be taken, has not been cleared yet. It is also not clear whether the two arrested players have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation into the case. 

A spokesperson of the police said that “Officers have arrested two men following a report of a rape. A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape. A second 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape. Both men have since been released on police bail.”

According to media reports, the alleged rape took place on Friday night. The victim contacted police officers hours later and lodged a formal complaint of rape and assault. After medical confirmation of rape, the police arrested the 19-year-old Premier League football player from the stadium, interrogated him and kept him in lockup the whole night.

His 19-year-old teammate was arrested the next day. Both have been accused of raping and assaulting the girl. The police released both the players on bail on the condition of being available when called for further questioning. Both players were arrested by the police after entering the stadium only with the permission of the club.

Notably, the Premier League has been in the headlines for many high-profile sex scandals. Man United striker Mason Greenwood, 22, was suspended in 2022 after being arrested for attempted rape. After getting a clean chit in the case, he is playing for the Spanish football club. Former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy, 29, was acquitted of rape after two trials last year. He now plays for a French football club.

Premier League: History

The Football League First Division was the top-tier football league in England from 1888. But in the post-1970s and early 1980s, the league started to reach a low point with incidents like the 1985 Heysel Stadium disaster, which banned them from UEFA Competitions for five years. 

But after England reached the 1990 FIFA World Cup semi-finals, the downward trend started to reverse. The stadium started to get filled, and the Taylor Report on stadium safety standards also helped clubs to create better standard stadiums. 

After a dispute over TV rights and maximising the club revenue, the big five clubs, Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, and Arsenal, opted to come out of the Football League First Division and create another league. 

At the close of the 1990-91 season, the FA Premier League was formed, and from 1992-93 the Premier League era started with 22 teams. Manchester United were the first Premier League champions and went on to win seven of the first nine trophies.

Till now, 51 teams have played in the Premier League since the tournament was rebranded in 1992. 7 teams have successfully won the Premier League title.

7. Leicester City - 1 title

In the 2015-16 Premier League season, Leicester City won the title in the Premier League. They were considered to be an underdog before but they overcame the rough phase and won the Premier League title in the club's 132-year history.

Striker Jamie Vardy broke the record for consecutive games with a goal in the Premier League (11). Meanwhile, Riyad Mahrez became both the first African and Algerian player to be the recipient of the PFA Players' Player of the Year.

6. Blackburn Rovers - 1 title

Blackburn Rovers was one of the 22 founding members of the Premier League era. They won the Premier League a long time ago in the 1994-95 season. Alan Shearer, with 34 goals for them, was the top scorer of the season. However, they were relegated in the 1998–99 season, becoming one of the 42 teams that were relegated as the Premier League champions.

Right after two seasons, they were promoted again in the 2000-01 season, but they were relegated yet once again, and that too in the same season. Unfortunately, they have not returned to the Premier League since then.

5. Liverpool FC - 2 titles

The Anfield Giants are one of the most popular English Clubs. Midfield maestros Steven Gerrard and William Shankly were a few of the legends that the club produced.

However, Liverpool had to wait for 30 years for their first-ever Premier League title. The club won the Premier League once in 2019-20 under German tactician Jurgen Klopp. That was Liverpool's nineteenth overall title in England's top-tier football. 

Mohamed Salah, with 19 goals, was one of the star performers for the Reds in that season. 

As their most recent league success, Liverpool won the Premier League 2024-25 title with 4 games to go in the season. Arne Slot's first season as the Liverpool manager gave them their 20th Title in the top flight and 2nd in the Premier League era.

4. Arsenal FC - 3 titles

The London Giants Arsenal are one of the most famous football clubs on planet earth. They have won the title 3 times in the years 1997-98, 2001-02, and 2003-04.

In domestic football, Arsenal has won 13 league titles, a record 14 FA Cups, two League Cups, and 17 FA Community Shields, but they haven't won a single European title yet.

The Blues won their first Premier League title under the 'Special One' Jose Mourinho, who completely changed the face of this London Club alongside Roman Abramovich, who was the Chelsea owner at that time.

2. Manchester City - 8 titles

Manchester City, the Blue side of Manchester, are the reigning champions of England and Europe. This team have won the title 7 times in the years 2011-12, 2013-14, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24.

1. Manchester United - 13 titles

The team with the most Premier League Titles is Manchester United, based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester. They are the most successful team in the English Premier League and also the most famous English Club on the Entire Planet. United were also the first-ever team to win the Premier League.

They were the first English club to ever win the European treble, and that remained a record until Manchester City finally matched it in the 2022-23 season. Manchester United won the titles in 1992-93, 1993-94, 1995-96, 1996-97, 1998-99, 1999-2000, 2000-01, 2002-03, 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09, 2010-11, and 2012-13.

After a poor start in the league, Barcelona went on an undefeated streak for over 20 matches to move to the top of the points table. Barcelona started the season brightly once again. They beat the Los Blancos 5–0, giving Guardiola five straight wins in El Clásico. Guardiola then accepted the club's offer for a one-year deal extension, signing a contract until June 2012. Barcelona won the La Liga title with 96 points and the club's third in a row after a 1–1 draw with Levante. 2011/12 - La Liga Runners up with 91 points

Barcelona won the 2011 UEFA Super Cup and Pep became the record holder of most titles won as a manager at Barcelona, with 12 trophies in only three years. Barcelona ended the 2011 calendar year winning the Club World Cup. This was Guardiola's 13th title of only 16 tournaments played. On his 41st birthday, he led his side to a 2–1 victory over arch-rivals Real Madrid in El Clásico, ensuring that he remained unbeaten against Real Madrid in regular time as a manager.

However, Barcelona lost the title to Real Madrid after they beat Barcelona 2–1 and extended their lead in the table to seven points with four matches remaining. Pep Guardiola's league records with Bayern Munich

2013/14 - Bundesliga Champions with 90 points

Guardiola took over as manager of Bundesliga Bayern Munich after the 2012–13 season, replacing Jupp Heynckes. He led Bayern to their 23rd Bundesliga title with 90 points by beating Hertha Berlin 3–1 in Berlin. The Bavarians won the title with 7 matches remaining which was the earliest in the history of the league. Guardiola broke Karl-Heinz Feldkamp's record for the longest winning streak to start his tenure at a Bundesliga club. The streak ended at 28 when Augsberg defeated Bayern 1–0. This loss also ended Bayern's 53–match unbeaten streak.

2014/15 - Bundesliga Champions with 79 points

In comparison to the previous season, the 2014-15 season saw Bayern only win the Bundesliga title but fell short in the cup competitions. Guardiola led the German giants to another league title as they won 25 matches while registering four draws and five defeats. They won the title with only 79 points but Guardiola maintained Bayern's league-winning streak.

2015/16 - Bundesliga Champions with 88 points

Bayern Munich won their first 10 games before drawing 0-0 at Eintracht Frankfurt. By that stage, it was already clear that another Bundesliga title was heading Bayern's and Guardiola's way. Bayern won 25 games in the 2014-15 Bundesliga season while registering four draws and five defeats. Pep Guardiola's league records with Manchester City

2016/17 - 3rd placed finish with 78 points

Manchester City signed Guardiola to a three-year contract for the start of the 2016–17 season. Pep brought in several significant players in the summer. He earned the victory in his first match of the Premier League season, as City defeated Sunderland 2–1. Guardiola won his first Manchester derby as a manager in a 2–1 City victory at Old Trafford.

City were leaders going into the international break, but their form declined. Manchester City lost to Everton 0–4 which was Guardiola's biggest-ever managerial defeat in a domestic competition. He finished the season without a trophy for the first time in his managerial career and City finished third in the points table with 78 points.

2017/18 - Premier League Champions with 100 points

Guardiola improved Manchester City in the summer transfer window and challenged for the league title. City were confirmed as the 2017–18 Premier League champions following Manchester United's 1–0 home defeat to West Bromwich Albion. After finishing the league season with a record-breaking 100 points, Guardiola signed a new contract with City until 2021. Many doubted Pep after his first season didn't turn out to be like his former outings but he showed that he can conquer any league.

2018/19 - Premier League Champions with 98 points

During Guardiola's third season as manager, Manchester City kicked off the season spectacularly and they remained sharp throughout the season. Pep secured a second consecutive Premier League title. His side finished on 98 points, one point above Liverpool, after a 4–1 victory at Brighton & Hove Albion in the final match of the season.

2019/20 - Premier League Runners up with 81 points

Guardiola's 2019/20 season with Manchester City wasn't that good. City finished second in the COVID-19 hit 2019–20 Premier League season with 81 points. The season was halted for over three months, following a decision by the Premier League to suspend the league after several players and other club staff became ill due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Liverpool were crowned champions for the first time since 1990. 

2020/21 - Premier League Champions with 86 points

Guardiola signed a new two-year contract with Manchester City until the summer of 2023. He won his 500th game as manager after City beat Sheffield United 1–0 at home in the Premier League on 31 January 2021. It was also the ninth game City had won in January, becoming the team with the most wins in a single month in the top four tiers of English football. Pep Guardiola's side broke the record for the longest winning run in English top-flight football history, with fifteen straight victories for City in all competitions. Guardiola won his third Premier League title with 86 points after Manchester United's home defeat to Leicester City.

2021/22 - Premier League Champions with 93 points

Pep surpassed Les McDowall as the manager with the most wins in Manchester City history following their 1–0 away victory over Chelsea in the Premier League. City won the Premier League title with a 3–2 victory over Aston Villa on the last matchday after making a stellar comeback. This was Guardiola's fourth league title at the club, placing him second on the list of managers with the most Premier League titles

2012/23 - Premier League Champions with 89 points

During the 2022–23 season, Manchester City won their third consecutive Premier League title, their fifth under Guardiola. Arsenal were leading the title race for most of the seasons but they somehow bottled it. City took the opportunity and went onto an unbeaten streak since February 2023 to finish at the top of the points table. The Catalan tactician also signed a new two-year contract with Manchester City until the summer of 2025. 

Then he went on to beat Inter Milan in the final of the Champions League and Manchester United in the FA Cup Final to lead Manchester City to a European treble. The Blue side of Manchester became the second-ever English team to win the treble.

2023/24 - Premier League Champions with 91 points

Manchester City became the first English club to win five titles in a calendar year. With this achievement, Guardiola became the first manager in history to win four FIFA Club World Cup titles. He didn't rest for a bit and City joined the Premier League title race again. This time they were in the race with Liverpool and Arsenal but Liverpool got knocked out of the race quite early. Arsenal didn't bottle it this time but their two losses against Aston Villa cost big time. City once again took control and won the title with 91 points on the last day of the race after beating West Ham. They won their fourth-straight Premier League title, becoming the first-ever English club to do so.

The top teams around Europe's top five leagues played beautiful football for the whole season and we have now gotten the winners. Manchester City lifted the Premier League title four times in a row while Bayer 04 Leverkusen produced an invincible season and ultimately lifted the Bundesliga title. Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and PSG are the Serie A, La Liga, and Ligue 1 champions respectively. 2023-24 Men's Football League Winners of Europe's top five leagues

Premier League 2023-24 Champion: Manchester City 

Manchester City lifted the Premier League title once again. This is their fourth league title in a row and no other club in England have ever won the league four times in a row before them. They created history by defeating West Ham United 3-1 at home in the last game of the season. Arsenal were right behind them and won their last game against Everton to collect 89 points after Matchday 38. Manchester City accumulated 91 points and won their ninth league title. Pep Guardiola's side were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid in the Quarter-Finals but in the league, they remained untouchable and ultimately crowned as the 2023/24 Premier League Champions.

Serie A 2023-24 Champion: Inter Milan

Inter Milan secured its 20th Serie A title on April 22 by beating city rival AC Milan 2-1. Out of the 33 games that it took to win the league, Inter won 27, drew five, and lost one, against Sassuolo at home. After the departure of Antonio Conte in 2021, there was uncertainty in the club over the next manager before Simone Inzaghi took over. His side could not regain the league title in the 2021-22 season but won the Supercoppa Italiana and the Coppa Italia in his first season and finished the league in second place, two points behind the winner AC Milan. But, the management believed Inzaghi and the hard work paid off as they lifted the 2023/24 Serie A title.

La Liga 2023-24 Champion: Real Madrid

On 4 May 2024, Real Madrid were officially confirmed as champions with four matches to spare following Barcelona's 4–2 defeat to Girona, securing a record-extending 36th title. The Los Blancos leads the 2023-24 La Liga season with 93 points, with two games still to play. They have taken an unassailable lead of 14 points over their direct rival, Barcelona. 

Real Madrid played exceptional football this whole season. Despite getting hit by lots of injuries, Carlo Ancelotti never looked under pressure. He handled the players brilliantly and dominated the opponents in both La Liga and the Champions League. They are in the final of the UCL and there is a huge possibility that they lift the title once again.

Ligue 1 2023-24 Champion: PSG

PSG crowned Ligue 1 champions for a record-extending 12th time. PSG were held to a surprise 3-3 draw against Le Havre on Saturday, and they had to rely on second-placed Monaco not winning if they were to be crowned champions this weekend. Monaco's loss left them on 59 points, 11 behind PSG's total of 70 points and the title went out of reach for the chasers with only three games left in the season.

The French giants are on their way to winning all the trophies available to them in Kylian Mbappé's final season at the club. The Parisian club have now won 10 of the past 13 championships since its takeover by the Qatari Sports Investment in 2011.

Bundesliga 2023-24 Champion: Bayer Leverkusen

Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen created history in the 2023/24 season as they went undefeated in the Bundesliga and clinched their maiden league title as well. They broke the longest-running unbeaten streak in European football history while breaking many more German records. 

Bayer Leverkusen scored 89 goals in the 28 games and came back from losing the games on many occasions. In 34 games in the league, Bayer won 28 of them and drew only six times. Victor Boniface was their top scorer in the league with 14 goals while Alejandro Grimaldo was the top assist provider with 13 assists. 

Erling Haaland scored a brace while Stefan Ortega made some crucial saves coming from the bench for Manchester City FC as Pep Guardiola's men defeated Tottenham Hotspur by 2-0 in London to reclaim the top spot in the Premier League 2023-24 points table. The first half went goalless but Haaland found the net from a Kevin de Bruyne assist in the 51st minute to put City in front. 

However, an injury to Ederson changed the dynamic of the match as City were forced to replace him with Ortega in the goal. But, Ortega stepped up and made four huge saves to deny Spurs again and again. Son Heung Min had the best chance for the home team in the second half, but Ortega's save meant City had the lead. In the dying minutes of the match, Doku earned a penalty and Haaland doubled the lead for City.

City will now have to beat West Ham United on Sunday to win their record fourth consecutive Premier League title.

Argentina and Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez will miss the rest of the season due to surgery on a groin injury. The Argentinian World Cup winner has been suffering with a hernia for several weeks and struggled to deliver a good performance during the 5-0 thrashing at Arsenal in the Premier League 2023-24. He will miss Chelsea's last six league games of this season and it remains to be seen if he can recover in time for the Copa America in June. 

"Enzo Fernandez has today undergone successful surgery on a groin issue and will now begin a period of rehabilitation, sidelining him for the remainder of Chelsea's 2023/24 season," a club statement said.

Enzo Fernandez to miss the rest of the season

Enzo hasn't been able to reach his potential after signing from Benfica for £106 million ($134m) in January last year. He admitted that he doesn't feel "100 percent" which might be one of the reasons behind his underperformance.

Fernandez had earlier said: "I’m trying to get there, to the version of me that you saw at the World Cup. I want to feel like that Enzo, who was playing at the World Cup. I want to get back there. I feel good, getting better each day, but I still don’t feel like I’m at 100 percent. I’m still adapting and still don’t feel entirely myself, but I’m trying to get there as quickly as possible and working hard every day to do so."

"The 23-year-old midfielder will work with the club's medical department on his rehabilitation at Cobham," the club statement stated.

The loss of Fernandez is another blow for Chelsea, who are ninth in the league and visit fourth-placed Aston Villa on Saturday. Chelsea haven't improved a bit from last season. They have stepped up here and there but the lack of discipline and mentality is clearly visible. The players are too young and that might be one of the reasons behind it. Mauricio Pochettino is counting his days as the manager of Chelsea and another loss in the Premier League will probably give the management license to sack the Argentinian.
