The 2023-24 season is the first in 20 years that doesn't feature either Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo in one of Europe's major leagues. That's why they are not on the list too. We've now arrived at a new era and some familiar names have completed a brilliant 2023-24 campaign alongside some new names. It's time we take a look at the top players who have scored the most goals across Europe's top five leagues, Premier League, Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1.

Ukrainian international striker Artem Dovbyk became the most expensive player in Girona’s history during the summer transfer window following a remarkable season with Dnipro-1 where he scored 32 goals in 48 matches across all competitions. He has already proven his worth in Girona, scoring clutch goals as the club continued to surprise many at the top of the table and qualified for the Champions League next season. Dovbyk has scored 21 goals and provided 7 assists in 35 games in the league for Girona. He has been more than brilliant in his first season at the club.

9. Alexander Isak - 21 Goals | Newcastle United

Most Goals: Alexander Isak comes ninth in the list with 21 goals

Injuries are the only thing that was stopping Alexander Isak from playing his best football and he has shown what he can do. The Swedish striker netted 21 goals and provided 2 assists in the Premier League this season after appearing in 30 games. Newcastle had lots of issues this season but scoring goals was their only positive. They have played high-intensity football throughout the season and can turn Isak into a monster if the problems get sorted out next season.

8. Cole Palmer - 22 Goals | Chelsea

Most Goals: Cole Palmer comes eighth in the list with 22 goals
Cole Palmer comes eighth on the list with 22 goals | Image: Getty

It can be said that Cole Palmer has carried Chelsea in lots of games this season. He joined the West London club, Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer transfer window and proved to be the best among everyone they signed. Palmer scored a brilliant hat-trick against Manchester United in a 4-3 victory at Stamford Bridge and then scored another hat-trick at home during a 6-0 huge victory against Everton. He scored four goals in that Everton game and popped up in the Premier League Golden Boot race out of nowhere. However, He couldn't win that but helped Chelsea finish sixth in the points table after a very poor start to the campaign.

7. Alexander Sorloth - 23 Goals | Villarreal

Most Goals: Alexander Sorloth comes seventh in the list with 23 goals

Alexander Sorloth was not in the top 10 list but his 4-goal riot against Real Madrid made him fall on the seventh spot of the list. The Norwegian forward scored 4 goals inside 17 minutes to help his side earn one point against the La Liga Champions. Sorloth has scored 23 goals and provided 6 assists in 33 La Liga games for Villarreal.

He continued his goal-scoring form and now has 24 goals and 3 assists to show after appearing in 33 Serie A games for Inter. Inter became the Champions and lifted their 20th Scudetto after the victory against their arch-rivals, AC Milan.

Mbappe has surprisingly only broken the 30-goal mark once (33 back in 2018-19) and is yet to claim a European Golden Shoe. This season is Mbappe's first in which he's the main man at the Parc des Princes. Mbappe has also scored 27 goals this season in the French league after appearing in 29 games for PSG. This is his last season at PSG and he helped his side win the league title for the 12th time. The French superstar is most likely to join Real Madrid next season.

Erling Haaland is third on this list with 27 goals for Manchester City this season. Although he scored 27 goals in the league, his performances were inconsistent. Manchester City once again lifted the league title and Haaland has contributed with 32 G/A this season. He couldn't replicate his last season form but still winning the Premier League Golden Boot back-to-back times is everyone's cup of tea.

2. Serhou Guirassy - 28 Goals | Vfb Stuttgart

Serhou Guirassy is second on the list with 28 goals

21 goals? Who has scored the most goals in an official football match?

With Erling Haaland becoming the first since Austria’s Hans Krankl in 1977 to score five goals in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match, the question was raised about who has scored the most goals in an official football match.

Football, the beautiful game, is all about scoring goals and preventing someone from scoring goals. Whoever scores more goals wins a football game; that is why the goal scorers are one of the most important parts of a football team. With Erling Haaland becoming the first since Austria’s Hans Krankl in 1977 to score five goals in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match, the question was raised about who has scored the most goals in an official football match.

Haaland’s five goals in FIFA World Cup qualifiers

Inspired by Haaland’s remarkable accomplishment, scoring five times against Moldova to help Norway win 11-1 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, we decided to explore records for goal scorers in official matches.

Haaland, who already shares the record for most goals in a UEFA Champions League game (which we’ll discuss soon), looked dangerous from the start. Despite a cut on his face from a bus accident the previous day, he found the net in the 11’, 36’, 43’, 52’, and 83’ minutes at Oslo’s Ullevaal Stadion.

But is this the most goals by a footballer in a FIFA World Cup qualifier match? The answer is NO.

Most goals in a FIFA World Cup qualifier match

Australia’s Archie Thompson holds the record for scoring the highest number of goals in a single FIFA World Cup qualifier match.

In the 2002 qualifying match, Thompson scored 13 goals against American Samoa, as the Aussies recorded a 31-0 win, the biggest victory in an international football match ever.

Has anyone scored five goals in a World Cup match?

Most goals scored a single FIFA World Cup match by a player - Oleg Salenko of Russia scored five goals in a 6-1 win over Cameroon in the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the USA

Since we are talking about the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, let’s know who has scored the most goals in a FIFA World Cup match.

Actually, only once has someone scored five goals in a FIFA World Cup match. Oleg Salenko of Russia scored five goals in a 6-1 win over Cameroon in the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the USA. This is still the record for the most goals scored in a FIFA World Cup match.

Since we were talking about Haaland scoring five goals in a UEFA Champions League match, let’s get to know who has scored the most goals in a UEFA Champions League match.

Paul Van Himst, Gerd Müller, Claudio Sulser, Søren Lerby, Lionel Messi, Luiz Adriano, and Erling Haaland have the record of scoring five goals in a single UEFA Champions League match, which is the highest in the tournament’s history.

Most goals in an official football match

Now, with any further delay, let’s get into the stat you have come here to know. Who has scored the most goals in a single official match?

The record we will talk about is obviously taking first-class or fully professional matches for the country or club into consideration.

In Men’s football and overall, Yanick Manzizila of Sweden broke the record for the most goals scored in an official match by a player. Manzilila, in 2014, while playing for a club named Kongo United in the 9th division of Swedish football, scored 21 goals as Kongo United defeated Balrog Botkyrka Sodertalje by 30-0.

In Women’s football, Megi Doçi recently scored 16 goals in the 2024–25 Kategoria Superiore Femra on 16 March 2025. While playing for KFF Vllaznia, she surpassed her previous record of 14 goals as her team defeated KFF Lushnja by 23-0.
