Real Madrid will face Stade Brest 29 on January 30, 2025, away from their home at Stade du Roudourou, Guingamp. With just one game left to play in the Champions League group stage, Real Madrid have a slight chance of direct qualification for the round of 16.

How Los Blancos can qualify naturally for the Champions League round of 16: 

• Real Madrid must win their final match against Brest, preferably by at least three goals.
• Atalanta must lose to Barcelona, which would leave the Serie A heavyweights with just 14 points.
• Aston Villa must drop points against Celtic if the English side fails to collect three points against Celtic then they will be outshined by Real Madrid in the points table.
• If Bayer Leverkusen does not win the match against Sparta Praha, then it will be also helpful for the Los Blancos. 
• Feyenoord and Lille must draw the match if any of them gets all three points then it will be difficult for the defending champions to direct qualification into the round of 16.
• Monaco must drop points to Inter Milan, a draw or a loss for Monaco would put the French heavyweights below Real Madrid.

Even if, after all of the outcomes set out in Real Madrid's favor, Carlo Ancelotti and his men would still have to hope that Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, and FC Bayern Munich also drop points. If all of the outcomes fail to unfold then the team among the four with the best goal difference will jump into the direct qualification spot.

How Real Madrid can qualify for the Knockout stage:

Real Madrid already secured their spot in the Knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League 2024-25 season. The Spanish side is currently in the 16th position on the League table with 12 points from their first seven matches, already secured their place in the knockout stages. 

If they lose against Stade Brest 29, Real Madrid will still advance to the knockout phase playoffs. To make the UEFA Champions League round of 16, Real Madrid would then have to come out on top of their two-legged tie against their opponent in the knockout phase playoffs.

The English Premier League, or the Premier League, has been the best football league in Europe for a long now. As per UEFA Club Coefficients, the Premier League is the best football league on the continent, with the best standard of football and competitiveness. 

The competitiveness not only makes it tough for teams to finish at the summit of the points table, but the battle for the UEFA Champions League spot also intensifies. This season, Liverpool FC, Arsenal FC, Manchester City, Chelsea FC, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have already qualified for the UEFA Champions League from the Premier League.

How do teams qualify for the Champions League from a league?

Till the 2022-23 season, every top-four team from the European Leagues used to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Along with the top four teams, the Europa League winners also qualified for the Champions League next season. 

But, from the 2024 season, along with the top four teams and Europa League/Conference League winners, leagues started getting an additional European Performance Spot. EPS is awarded to the league with strong UEFA coefficient performances, which the Premier League earned this season as well.

Premier League teams to qualify for the Champions League every season since 2016

2015-16

In the 2025-16 Champions League season, Chelsea qualified as the champions of the Premier League 2014-15. Manchester City and Arsenal qualified as the second and third finishers of the league. 

Meanwhile, Manchester United qualified for the Champions League play-off round as the UEFA Europa League 2014-15 winners.

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur played an all-England final where Liverpool defeated Spurs by 2-0 to win the title.

A record six teams qualified for the 2025-26 Champions League season from the Premier League. Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea qualified as the top four teams. The EPS allowed an added spot as Newcastle United qualified as the fifth team.

Spurs qualified as the Europa League 2024-25 winners. Chelsea can also become the seventh team to qualify from the Premier League, if they win the UEFA Conference League final against Real Betis on 28th May.

He has been named to the FIFA FIFPro World XI six times and was recognised as the Champions League Best Midfielder twice. On the pitch for Real Madrid, Modric made 590 appearances, scoring 43 goals, and earned a Golden Ball and Silver Ball at the Club World Cup.

Internationally, Modric is Croatia’s record holder for appearances with 186 caps. His leadership guided Croatia to a runner-up finish at the 2018 World Cup, where he won the Golden Ball, and a third-place finish in 2022, earning the Bronze Ball.
