Djokovic had last lost in the Australian Open in 2018. That means his 2195 days of being invincible has ended. During this period he had won 33 consecutive matches. 10-time Australian Open winner Djokovic is also called the King of Melbourne. In this way, Djokovic will have to wait to win his record 11th Australian Open and overall 25th major title.

Sinner's dominance in the first two sets

Fourth-seeded Sinner had stunned Djokovic twice in three matches at the end of last season. Jannik Sinner made a strong start in the Australian Open semi-finals. Djokovic was not even visible around him. The 36-year-old made a brilliant start by targeting Djokovic's weak serve and error-prone backhand to win the opening set easily.

Djokovic definitely made a comeback in the third set but at one point Sinner reached match point. Coming back from there, he won the set in the tie breaker. Sinner's dominance was once again seen in the fourth set. By winning it, he secured a place in the finals. Djokovic was once again unable to break Sinner's serve in the entire match.

Now on Sunday, Jannik Sinner will face the winner of the second semi-final between third seed Daniil Medvedev and sixth seed Alexander Zverev.

22 year old Sinner has reached a Grand Slam final for the first time. In addition, Sinner is only the third player to defeat Djokovic in Grand Slam, Davis Cup and ATP Finals. Before him, only Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were able to do this feat.

Moreover, at the age of 22 years and 163 days, Sinner has also become the youngest finalist of this Grand Slam tournament. He broke Djokovic's record made in 2008. Sinner is also the first Italian player to reach the final of the Australian Open.

On the other hand, whenever Djokovic has reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open before, he has won, and also became champion. However, now one defeat has also been added to his record. Djokovic had not lost a single match in the Australian Open for the last six years. Last time they lost in this tournament was in 2018. Then he was defeated by Chung Hyeon of South Korea in the fourth round.
