What is a Grand Slam? The majors also known as Grand Slams are the biggest stage in professional tennis. The Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open are the 4 Grand Slams in tennis that the players crave to win and are considered to be the biggest stage in professional tennis. 128 players compete in the main draw of men's and women's singles. Each of these 4 Grand Slams offers 2000 points to the winner as per the ranking guidelines of the ITF. A player winning all 4 throughout his/her career is said to have achieved the feat of a Career Grand Slam. Over this period of time, a lot of Grand Slam records have been created and broken by players like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams. 1. Roger Federer (369 wins)
Roger Federer holds the record for the most number of Grand Slam singles matches wins. A Wimbledon junior champion in 1998, Federer won his first Grand Slam singles title at Wimbledon in 2003 at age 21. He has won 20 Grand Slam Titles which is a Men's Grand Slam Records. He played his first Grand Slam match in the year 1999 when he lost to P.Rafter by 7-5,3-6,0-6,2-6. His first win in a Grand Slam match came at Australian Open, in 2000. He defeated M.Chang by 6-4,6-4,7-6. Since then, he has been phenomenal. He has played 422 Grand Slam matches out of which he has won 363. Roger Federer didn't participate in the Australian Open, in 2021 due to a knee injury.

2. Serena Williams (365 wins)
Serena Williams also holds the Grand Slam Records for winning the most number of Grand Slam singles matches wins. Serena won her first-ever Grand Slam match at Australian Open, in 1998. In that match she defeated I. Spearlea by 6-7,6-3,6-1. She faced her sister Venus Williams in the next round and lost to her. Serena won her first Grand Slam Title in 1999 when she won the US Open. Since then, she has won 23 Grand Slam titles which is a Grand Slam Record.
3.Novak Djokovic (348 wins)
The 23-Grand Slams winner has the record of winning the most number of grand slam matches by any active tennis player. The Serbian was the third wheel of the Roger-Nadal-Djokovic era. However, with time, longevity and consistency, Novak Djokovic over the time has become the most successful tennis player of this open era. Till now, Novak has won 348 Grand Slam matches and he will surely look to touch Roger's record of 369; which might take a few more seasons for him.

4. Rafael Nadal (314 wins)
The King of Clay, the player with the second most Grand Slam Singles titles in the men's category, and the only player to win any Grand Slams 14th time, Rafael Nadal is a living legend when it comes to Tennis. The Spanish left-hander has been ruling the courts with his power and fighting spirit. Nadal won his first-ever Grand Slam back in 2005 and kept on winning French Open until 2008. In addition, in 2008, he also won his first-ever Wimbledon title and in 2009 won his first-ever Australian Open as well. He had to wait till 2010 to win his first-ever US Open. Till now Nadal has won 314 Grand Slam matches and played 357 matches in the biggest Tennis Tournaments in the World.
5. Martina Navratilova (305 wins)
Winning 59 Grand Slams in total, Martina Navratilova is considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time. She has won 18 singles titles, 31 Double's titles and 10 Mixed Double's Titles. She played her first Grand Slam match in 1973 where she defeated her counterpart Kozeluhova by 6-4,6-3. Her first Grand Slam Title win came in the year 1978 when she won the Wimbledon Open. She didn't participate in any grand slam single tournament between 1995-2003. She returned to play in the French Open in 2004 but was knocked out in the first round. Her Grand Slam Records of winning 31 Double's titles is very difficult to break. She took women's tennis to a new level with her speed, determination and agility. She won a record 120 matches at Wimbledon.

6. Chris Evert (299 wins)
Winning 299 Grand Slam singles matches, Chris Evert stands in the fifth position. She has played in 34 Grand Slams and won 18 of them. Her first Grand Slam win came in the year 1972 where she won 1-6,6-3,6-3 against V. Ziegenfuss in the first round of Wimbledon. Since then, she has played 335 Grand Slam singles matches winning 299 and losing 36 of them. She had a 125-match clay court winning streak from August 1973 to May 1979. Chris retired in September 1989 after playing in the U.S Open, at that time she was ranked 4 in the World Rankings.

7. Steffi Graf (278 wins)
Steffi Graf has won 278 grand slam singles matches in her entire career. She has played 31 Grand Slams winning 22 of them. Her Grand Slam win rate is 71%. Steffi Graf played his first ever Grand Slam match in the year 1983 where she lost in the first round itself. Her first win in a Grand Slam match was in the French Open, in 1983. She won the match against C Karlsson by 6-4,6-1. Till then she played 310 Grand Slam singles matches and has lost only 32 of them. In the year 1988, she won all four Grand Slams. Graf retired in August 1999 while ranked World number 3.
8. Venus Williams (270 wins)
Venus Williams ranks in the 8th position in the list of the players with the most number of Grand Slam singles matches win. She has played in 16 Grand Slams and has won 7 out of them. Venus Williams played his first Grand Slam singles match in the year 1997. She lost the match against N.Tauziat by 7-5,3-6,5-7. Her first win in a Grand Slam came in the US Open,1997 where she reached the final. She lost the final to Martina Hingis 6-0,6-4. She has played 350 Grand Slam matches out of which she has won 270 and lost 80. She will begin her French Open campaign today against E. Alexandrova.

9. Jimmy Connors (233 wins)
Jimmy Connors has won 233 Grand Slam singles matches and stands in the 9th position on the list. Jimmy Connors spent a total of 268 weeks at number 1, including 160 consecutive weeks. He has won 8 Grand Slam singles titles, 2 doubles titles. His first Grand Slam singles match was in the 1970 US Open which he lost to M.Cox. His first Grand Slam singles match win came in 1971. Jimmy defeated Olmedo in a five-set thriller. He has played 282 Grand Slam singles matches winning 233 and losing 49 of them. Connors retired in 1996 at the age of 43.

10. Andre Agassi (224 wins)
Andre Agassi ranks 10th among the players who have the Grand Slam records of winning the most number of Grand Slam singles matches. He has played 15 Grand Slams and has won 8 of them. He played his first Grand Slam singles match in 1986 against Bates and lost by 6-7,3-6,6-4,4-6. His first win came in 1987 when he defeated Argentinian Villas in the first round of the French Open. He has played 277 Grand Slam singles matches winning 224 and losing 53 of them. Agassi retired from professional tennis on September 3, 2006, after losing in the third round of the US Open to Benjamin Becker.
