India faced Pakistan in the 12th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India were coming after winning both matches they have played, while Pakistan have had a similar run as well.

Coming in to bat first, Pakistan started in a decent manner but both of the openers fell short to score big. Rizwan and Babar Azam made a brilliant partnership of 82 runs but India made a huge comeback to scalp 8 wickets under just 36 runs. Pakistan were bowled out for 191 runs after being comfortable at 155/2. Bumrah, Siraj, Hardik, Kuldeep, and Jadeja picked up two wickets each

While Chasing, India started in an amazing manner. Debutant Shubman Gill was looking flawless but he was unfortunate to find Shadab while playing a cut. Rohit Sharma played a fiery inning of 86 runs after facing only 63 deliveries including 6 sixes and 6 fours. Virat Kohli couldn't score big this time but Shreyas Iyer came up with his first World Cup half-century. Eventually, Rohit Sharma lost his wicket but he surely deserved a ton. India now have a 8-0 lead over the noisy neibors in the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup.

The war of resilience, determination, and minds is not confined only to the realms of the cricket pitch but goes far beyond that.

India and Pakistan have now faced each other in 8 matches in ICC ODI World Cup tournaments. Out of these 8 games, India have won every one of them whereas Pakistan have come out victorious on 0 occasions. The highest total posted by India was 336 runs while highest score posted by Pakistan is 273 when these two teams clashed with each other in WC. 173 is the lowest total posted by Pakistan and 216 is the lowest total posted by India in the marquee event.

Pakistan cricket team's record in ODI matches is pretty decent. They have won the 1992 edition under the leadership of Imran Khan. Apart from that, Sarfaraz Ahmed led Pakistan to their maiden win of Champions Trophy in 2017 beating archrivals in the final. Apart from this, they have played four semi-finals and one final in World Cup and three semi-finals in Champions Trophy. Pakistan became the No.1 ranked ODI team for the first time on December 1, 1990.

On the other hand, India came into the ICC Cricket ODI World Cup 2023 as the top-ranked ODI team and lived up to the billing of tournament favourites with a six-wicket win over five-time winners Australia. They are fresh from their eight-wicket thrashing of Afghanistan after skipper Rohit Sharma smashed a record seventh World Cup century. Then came the biggest match of the ICC CWC 2023, India vs Pakistan. Pakistan could only manage to score 191 runs as India easily chased down 192 runs courtesy of Rohit Sharma's brilliant inning of 86 runs.

The India vs Pakistan saga at the ICC World Cup started with the 1992 World Cup in Sydney. India batted first and scored 216/7 with Sachin Tendulkar scoring an unbeaten 54 from 62 balls. In reply, despite a solid knock from Aamir Sohail (95 from 62 balls), Pakistan were bundled out for 173. Kapil Dev, Manoj Prabhakar and Javagal Srinath two wickets a-piece for India. Sachin Tendulkar was named Man of The Match for India.

9th March, 1996 | India v Pakistan at Bengaluru | India won by 39 runs

India's win-run against Pakistan in World Cup continued when a Navjot Singh Sidhu's special inning helped India beat Pakistan by 39 runs in Bengaluru. India batted first and scored 287/8 as Sidhu scored 93 from 115 balls. In reply, Pakistan could only manage to score 248/9 as Venkatesh Prasad and Anil Kumle took 3-wickets each for India. This was the famous match where Venkatesh Prasad gave a grand send-off to Aamir Sohail.

8 Jun 1999 |India v Pakistan at Manchester | India won by 47 runs

Third time in a row, India batted first against Pakistan in a World Cup game. India went on to score 227/6 with Rahul Dravid topping the scorechart with a 61 from 89 balls. Coming to chase, Pakistan could never get going against the Indian bowlers as they were bundled out for 180. Venkatesh Prasad again brought out his best against the Pakistani team with a bowling spell of 27/5 in 9.3 overs.

In 2003 ICC World Cup, Sachin Tendulkar probably played one of the best innings of World Cup history as he went after Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar and Waqar Yunis at Centurion. Sachin scored 98 runs from 75 balls as India chased down Pakistan's first inning total of 273/7 with 26 balls remaining. Yuvraj Singh had scored a solid fifty as well along with Rahul Dravid to see India through over their arch-rivals.

30th March 2011| India v Pakistan at Mohali | India won by 29 runs

In 2011, this was the first time both India and Pakistan were facing each other in a knock-out game in World Cup. The stakes were high more than ever with a position for the World Cup final on the final and Prime-Ministers from each country sitting at the VIP stands. Sachin Tendulkar again proved his metal on the big stage as he scored 85 from 115 balls. Althugh he was dropped thrice by Pakistani fielders. India scored 260/9 as Wahab Riaz took 5/46 in the first inning.

Mishabh-Ul-Haq fought well with the bat scoring a 56 from 76 delivers but it was not enough as every Indian bowlers took two wickets and helped India defend the total. Sachin Tendulkar was awarded man of the match for his inning.

In the 2015 World Cup, India again dominated Pakistan in Adelaide to stamp their authority over the neighbours in the biggest stage of One-Day cricket. Virat Kohli became the first Indian batter to score a ton in a Indian vs Pakistan match in any World Cup.

Kohli scored 107 from 126 balls to take India's total to 300/7 in the first inning while Sohail Khan took 5/55 for Pakistan. Coming to chase, Pakistan were troubled by the pace and bounce of Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav. Though Mishbah-Ul-Haq again played a valiant knock of 76, could not take his team home. Mohammed Shami took 4/35 as Pakistan were bundled out for 224 in 47 overs.

16 Jun 2019 | India v Pakistan at Manchester | India won by 89 runs (D/L method)

India defeated Pakistan in an ICC World Cup match fir the event time in a row and second time at Manchester during the 2019 World Cup. Rohit Sharma scored a scintillating ton (140 from 113 balls) against the Pakistani bowling line up and helped India score their highest total ever (336/5) against Pakistan in any ICC World Cup.

Although Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam were looking good in the middle overs, a special delivery from Kuldeep Yadav had turned the game to India's favour as he left-arm spinner got Babar bamboozled with his spin. Vijay Shankar and Hardik Pandya also took two wickets each as Pakistan could reach only 212/6 in 40 overs. India won by 89 runs in the D/L method to maintain their winning run against Pakistan in World Cups.

India maintained the clean sheet over Pakistan in the ODI World Cup history with a seven-wicket win in Ahmedabad on Saturday. This was India's record-extending 8th win over their arch-rivals. India's bowling attack was brilliant as the side bundled out Pakistan for 191 runs after skipper Rohit Sharma decided to bowl first. Babar Azam (50) and Mohammad Rizwan (49) looked promising but other batters failed to impress. For India, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj scalped two wickets each. While chasing the total, Rohit's fiery 86-run knock and Shreyas Iyer's unbeaten 53 guided India home.
