IPL 2023 Points Table: Punjab Kings kept their hopes alive for the Playoffs after defeating Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals have been officially knocked out of contention for the playoffs after a comprehensive 31-run loss to the Punjab Kings. Prabhsimran soldiered and went on to blast a 61-ball century. Sikandar Raza then finished unbeaten on 11 off seven and PBKS ended up with a score of 167/7. Warner ensured that DC had 69 runs in the powerplay. It looked like they were cruising towards victory at the time but the game has flipped as DC lost five wickets suddenly. DC eventually ended up with a score of 136/8 in their 20 overs. With this victory, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals are now with the same points (12). PBKS are sitting in the 6th position of the IPL 2023 Points Table.

What happened in the match?

Kings suffered 22 balls for no runs in the powerplay but hit seven others for 32 runs. A lot of this work was the result of Prabhsimran's enterprise. He performed brilliantly, played switch-hits against spin for sixes, and moved around all over the batting crease.

He settled in and got used to the pitch. Around the 12th over or so, he was finding ways to hold his shape and gain complete control over his shots. Prabhsimran was 53 of 44. Then he was dropped on 68. He delivered after getting the opportunity and completed the century.

On a pitch where none of his teammates crossed 20, and only two others managed to score at better than run-a-ball. This was a spectacular display of perseverance, even if he did have a tiny bit of help. In conditions where the ball isn't coming onto the bat, all a batsman has to do is take pace off, hit a hard length, and, most importantly, target the stumps.

DC got off to a brilliant start within the powerplay. David Warner took them to 65 for 0 in six overs. He cruised to a 23-ball fifty, scoring 42 of those runs in boundaries. Eventually, Shikhar Dhawan turned to spin and the game changed. Harpreet Brar (4 for 30) and Rahul Chahar (2 for 16) helped Hyderabad to pick up three wickets for two runs between the 9th and the 11th overs. By the end, Capitals needed seven players to combine just to reach a total of 136 runs.
