The UEFA Champions League has been the best club football tournament since its beginning. Europe's elite and best football teams and players participated in that tournament and only a few have found success in one of the toughest tournaments in the world. Till now, only 8 players have scored 50 or more goals in the Champion League's history, which speaks volumes for the quality of the tournament. As the French football star became the recent player to reach the landmark of 50 UCL goals, here are the 7 fastest players to score 50 Champions League goals.

7. Raúl | 97 games

7 fastest players to score 50 Champions League goals (by matches) | Raul | sportzpoint.com

Raúl González Blanco or Raul has been one of the greatest strikers to play for Real Madrid. A captain with the calmness to set an example for others and a striker with an instinct to find opportunities, Raul won 16 trophies with the Los Blancos. The Spaniard started his career with Atletico Madrid in the youth leagues and then became a Real Madrid player in the 1994/95 season.

Next season he debuted in the UEFA Champions League as an 18-year-old teenager and scored six goals and assisted twice in 8 games his first season. In 1992, he won his first Champions League title with Real Madrid and tasted the same in 2000 and 2002, scoring in both finals. In the 2002/03 season, he had 15 contributions (9 goals and 6 assists) in 12 games.

The former striker took only 97 games to complete 50 Champions League goals and finished with 71 goals in his career along with 32 assists in 142 matches. Other than playing for Real Madrid, he played for Schalke in the Champions League.

6. Cristiano Ronaldo | 91 games

7 fastest players to score 50 Champions League goals (by matches): Cristiano Ronaldo - 91 games | sportzpoint.com

It is astonishing that Cristiano Ronaldo, the greatest-ever goal scorer in Champions League history, took 91 games to score his first 50 Champions League goals. In the next 92 games, Ronaldo scored a stunning 90 goals in the Champions League.

Ronaldo started his Champions League career with Sporting CP in the 2002/03 season and played only one game for them in the competition before heading to Manchester United to play under the great Sir Alex Ferguson. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner was a winger early in his career and then became a beast of a goalscorer later in his career. With United, he won his first Champions League title in 2008 and won his first Ballon d'Or that year as well. With 31 goals, he won the Golden Boot in Europe too that season.

After conquering Old Trafford, he moved the Real Madrid on a record transfer fee and left them as their highest goalscorer in history. Ronaldo won four Champions League titles in five seasons with Real Madrid from 2013/14 to 2017/18 and nearly scored more than 10 goals each season.

In 2013/14, he scored 17 goals in 11 games, 10 goals in 12 games in 2014/15, 16 goals in 12 games in 2015/16, 12 goals in 13 games in 2016/17 and scored 15 goals in 13 games in 2017/18 season before moving to Turin to join Juventus.

After scoring 14 goals for Juventus in the tournament, he again scored 6 goals in 7 appearances for United in his second stint.

Ronaldo finished his Champions League career with a record 140 goals for 3 clubs in just 183 games.

5. Karim Benzema | 88 games

7 fastest players to score 50 Champions League goals (by matches): Karim Benzema | sportzpoint.com

One of the most famous trios in modern football B-B-C, Karim Benzema formed a great partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo to form the most lethal attacks in the world. Benzema started his Champions League career with Olympique Lyon in the 2004/05 season but had to wait for a season to play his first UCL game.

In the first three seasons for Olympique Lyon in the Champions League, Benzema scored 12 goals and then moved to Real Madrid where he became a legendary player. In the next 14 seasons for Real Madrid, he scored 78 goals in the tournament.

Benzema took 88 games to reach his first 50 UCL goals and then scored 40 goals in his next 64 games. Benzema won five Champions League titles, all with Real Madrid and won the Ballon d'Or once in 2022.

4. Kylian Mbappe | 79 games

Fastest to 50 UCL goals: Kylian Mbappe in 79 goals | sportzpoint.com

Along with Karim Benzema, and Thierry Henry, Kylian Mbappe is the third French player to score 50 Champions League and the 25-year-old is the second youngest after Lionel Messi to score that amount of goals in the tournament. Mbappe started his UCL career with AS Monaco as a teenager and scored 6 goals in his debut season in 2016/17.

Post that successful debut season, he was bought by PSG as the future of the club and played for them in the next seven seasons. From the 2019/20 season, where he played the final with PSG, he has managed to have more than 10 contributions in each season till the 2023/24 season.

Mbappe completed his 50th landmark goal against Atalanta in the league phase match of the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 season.

3. Robert Lewandowski | 77 games

7 fastest players to score 50 UCL goals | sportzpoint.com

Robert Lewandowski is the only third player in Champions League history to score more than 100 goals. The Polish striker started his UCL career with German club Borussia Dortmund in the 2011/12 season and attracted bids from a few other clubs since the beginning. In his second season with Dortmund, he scored 10 goals in 13 games, where he lost in the final against Bayern Munich. He stayed with the Yellow Wall for another season before making a move to Bayern Munich.

With Bayern, Lewandowski won the 2020 Champions League and broke many more records with the club. In his 8th Champions League season in 2018/19, Lewandowski reached the landmark of 50 goals in the tournament in just 77 games and till now has scored 101 goals in just 124 games at an outstanding rate of .81 goals/match.

2. Lionel Messi | 66 games

7 fastest players to reach 50 UCL goals | Lionel Messi in 66 games | sportzpoint.com

Once in a generation player Lionel Messi is probably the greatest footballer of the modern era. Messi started his career with his boyhood club FC Barcelona as a teenage sensation and finished as their most successful player ever.

Messi made his UCL debut in the 2004/05 season and played only one game that season. Post that, he never had to look behind. The four-time UEFA Champions League winner won his first Champions League title in the 2005-06 season. In the 2007/08 season, Messi recorded 8 goal contributions in 9 games and the next season had 14 contributions in 12 games in a successful season for Barcelona.

The 8-time Ballon d'Or winner won back-to-back four awards from 2009 to 2012 after record-breaking seasons with the Catalan club. Messi's 91 goals in 2011, are the highest in any calendar year and might not be broken any time soon. His rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo flourished during that time when they dominated world football by scoring more than 50 goals in a season for fun.

Messi took only 66 games to score his first 50 goals in UCL and then finished with 129 goals in 163 games while playing for Barcelona and PSG.

1. Ruud van Nistelrooy | 62 games

Rudd van Nisterlrooy is still the fastest player to reach 50 Champions League goals | sportzpoint.com

Manchester United legend Rudd van Nisterlrooy is still the fastest player to reach 50 Champions League goals. Rudd started his Champions League career with PSV Eindhoven in the 1998/99 season and played two seasons for them. Post that, he joined Manchester United and had a blistering 5 seasons with the Red Devils where he scored 35 goals in 43 games for them.

Rudd finished his Champions League career with Real Madrid, where he spent three seasons scoring 7 goals in 12 UCL games for the 15-time Champions.

However, it is quite unfortunate that a player of his stature only played 73 games in the biggest European competition and never won the title as well. With 56 goals in 73 games at 0.76 goals per match, Rudd van Nistelrooy is one of the greatest strikers to play in Champions League history.

The Dutch side were unfortunate not to score when an excellent Yann Sommer denied Mika Godts' save before the opening goal, but Cristian Chivu's first experience of the UEFA Champions League as a coach produced a confident victory for the visitors.

Full-time | PSG 4-0 Atalanta

PSG 4-0 Atalanta - UEFA Champions League matchday 1 roundup

Luis Enrique can’t have wished for much more. A swashbuckling attacking display that included four goals and a well-deserved clean sheet.

After a league phase campaign fraught with jeopardy last time round, Paris start their quest for a second consecutive Champions League crown in the most consummate of ways.

As for Atalanta, they toiled and stuck to their task, but will now focus on picking up their first points against Club Brugge in two weeks time.

Full time | Liverpool 3-2 Atletico

Liverpool 3-2 Atletico - Virgil van Dijk scored a late winner for LiverpoolLiverpool found a way for a hard-fought three points in their league phase opener.

Atleti deserve huge credit for their response to falling 2-0 down. The hosts fashioned the better chances after the interval, with Mohamed Salah striking the post, but Marcos Llorente’s late volley was cancelled out by Virgil Van Dijk right at the end.

Half-time | Liverpool 2-1 Atletico Madrid

UEFA Champions League 2025-26, match day 1 all matches LIVE updates, Scores, and News: Liverpool 2-1 Atletico Madrid at half-time

Liverpool could hardly have wished for a better start at Anfield after Andy Robertson’s fortuitous opener and Mohamed Salah’s fine effort, but Atleti have done well to gain a foothold and managed to half the deficit through Marcos Llorente on the stroke of half-time.

The hosts will need to hit the ground running in the second half, otherwise it might be back to square one for Arne Slot's team.

Half-time | Ajax 0- 1 Inter

UEFA Champions League 2025-26, match day 1 all matches LIVE updates, Scores, and News: Thuram scored for Inter

After something of a shaky start, Ajax managed to find their way back into the game.

Ironically, they had the best chance of taking the lead – Yann Sommer saving expertly from Mika Godts – seconds before Marcus Thuram headed the visitors in front at the other end.

John Heitinga’s men will now have to commit more men forward in search of an equaliser, which could play into Inter’s hands.

Sep 17, 2025, 7:53 PM

Half-time | PSG 2-1 Atalanta

A consummate performance befitting of champions. Paris have started their European campaign in much the same vein they finished the last - in total control. In truth, Atalanta had done well to limit the hosts to Marquinhos’ close-range finish, with Marco Carnesecchi largely to thank, but Khvicha Kvaratskhelia eventually added a sumptuous second.

Bradley Barcola’s missed penalty is the only blemish, while Atalanta will be grateful for the half-time break.

Full time: Praha 2-2 Bodo

What a contest we have witnessed! Both teams gave everything, competing all the way. Slavia earned a two-goal advantage thanks to a pair of strikes from Youssoupha Mbodji on his full debut, but Bodø/Glimt displayed the character they so often showed during last season's run to the Europa League semi-finals thanks to substitutes Sondre Brunstad Fet and Daniel Bassi. A breathtaking evening, with both clubs showing why they play at this level.

Full time: Olympiacos 0-0 Pafos

Olympiacos 0-0 Pafos

Pafos make a memorable debut in the UEFA Champions League, taking a point despite having ten players for more than an hour. Olympiacos applied plenty of pressure around the opposition box but may feel their finishing could have been better, while the Cypriot club managed to disarm them and escape unscathed.

Up next, potentially greater hurdles for both sides: Olympiacos travel to London for their game against Arsenal, while Pafos play host to Bayern Munich.

Full-time: Real Madrid 2-1 Marseille

Real Madrid 2-1 Marseille

A pair of penalties from Kylian Mbappé helped Real Madrid turn a deficit into victory in Xabi Alonso's first Champions League game at the helm.

After withstanding early pressure from the hosts, Marseille struck first through Timothy Weah's emphatic finish, but Alonso's side were quickly level when Mbappé converted from the spot following a foul by Geoffrey Kondogbia on Rodrygo.

Although Madrid had Dani Carvajal sent off in the 72nd minute, Mbappé struck again with nine minutes left after Facundo Medina was penalised for handball.

Khéphren Thuram and Loïs Openda both went close for the hosts in the first half, before Karim Adeyemi’s 52nd-minute finish sparked the encounter into life.

Kenan Yıldız, Felix Nmecha and Dušan Vlahović all scored in a four-minute flurry before Yan Couto's powerful finish made it 3-2 to Dortmund.

The visitors looked to have sealed victory through Ramy Bensebaini's 85th-minute penalty, but Juventus rescued a draw in added time thanks to Dušan Vlahović's finish and a Lloyd Kelly header.

What an excellent performance by Sébastien Pocognoli’s men. Throughout the match they seemed able to absorb any pressure, remain calm when in possession, and now and again turn up the heat to inflict damage on the home side.

21 goals? Who has scored the most goals in an official football match?

With Erling Haaland becoming the first since Austria’s Hans Krankl in 1977 to score five goals in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match, the question was raised about who has scored the most goals in an official football match.

Football, the beautiful game, is all about scoring goals and preventing someone from scoring goals. Whoever scores more goals wins a football game; that is why the goal scorers are one of the most important parts of a football team. With Erling Haaland becoming the first since Austria’s Hans Krankl in 1977 to score five goals in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match, the question was raised about who has scored the most goals in an official football match.

Haaland’s five goals in FIFA World Cup qualifiers

Inspired by Haaland’s remarkable accomplishment, scoring five times against Moldova to help Norway win 11-1 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, we decided to explore records for goal scorers in official matches.

Haaland, who already shares the record for most goals in a UEFA Champions League game (which we’ll discuss soon), looked dangerous from the start. Despite a cut on his face from a bus accident the previous day, he found the net in the 11’, 36’, 43’, 52’, and 83’ minutes at Oslo’s Ullevaal Stadion.

But is this the most goals by a footballer in a FIFA World Cup qualifier match? The answer is NO.

Most goals in a FIFA World Cup qualifier match

Australia’s Archie Thompson holds the record for scoring the highest number of goals in a single FIFA World Cup qualifier match.

In the 2002 qualifying match, Thompson scored 13 goals against American Samoa, as the Aussies recorded a 31-0 win, the biggest victory in an international football match ever.

Has anyone scored five goals in a World Cup match?

Most goals scored a single FIFA World Cup match by a player - Oleg Salenko of Russia scored five goals in a 6-1 win over Cameroon in the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the USA

Since we are talking about the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, let’s know who has scored the most goals in a FIFA World Cup match.

Actually, only once has someone scored five goals in a FIFA World Cup match. Oleg Salenko of Russia scored five goals in a 6-1 win over Cameroon in the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the USA. This is still the record for the most goals scored in a FIFA World Cup match.

Since we were talking about Haaland scoring five goals in a UEFA Champions League match, let’s get to know who has scored the most goals in a UEFA Champions League match.

Paul Van Himst, Gerd Müller, Claudio Sulser, Søren Lerby, Lionel Messi, Luiz Adriano, and Erling Haaland have the record of scoring five goals in a single UEFA Champions League match, which is the highest in the tournament’s history.

Most goals in an official football match

Now, with any further delay, let’s get into the stat you have come here to know. Who has scored the most goals in a single official match?

The record we will talk about is obviously taking first-class or fully professional matches for the country or club into consideration.

In Men’s football and overall, Yanick Manzizila of Sweden broke the record for the most goals scored in an official match by a player. Manzilila, in 2014, while playing for a club named Kongo United in the 9th division of Swedish football, scored 21 goals as Kongo United defeated Balrog Botkyrka Sodertalje by 30-0.

In Women’s football, Megi Doçi recently scored 16 goals in the 2024–25 Kategoria Superiore Femra on 16 March 2025. While playing for KFF Vllaznia, she surpassed her previous record of 14 goals as her team defeated KFF Lushnja by 23-0.

New Messi? Franco Mastantuono wears Argentina's No.10 jersey in FIFA World Cup qualifiers

Franco Mastantuono, the 18-year-old midfielder, who played just his second match for the Argentina senior team, surprised everyone by wearing Lionel Messi's iconic No.10 jersey in the game against Ecuador.

New Messi? Franco Mastantuono wears Argentina's No.10 jersey in FIFA World Cup qualifiers | sportzpoint.com

In the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers game against Ecuador, Argentina, and Real Madrid's new star, Franco Mastantuono, did something that no one imagined. In Argentina's 0-1 defeat against Ecuador, the 18-year-old midfielder came out wearing the No.10 jersey, a number that fans associate only with Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi for their great careers with the La Albiceleste.

What happened?

New Messi? Franco Mastantuono wears Argentina's No.10 jersey in FIFA World Cup qualifiers

Argentina, who have already qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and will defend their title in Mexico, Canada and the USA next year, were losing by 0-1 after the halftime.

Nicloas Otamendi's 31-minute last-man foul had already turned the defending champions into a 10-man team. A few minutes later, at the stroke of half-time, Enner Valencia converted the penalty for the home side to give Ecuador a 1-0 lead.

Read Also: FIFA World Cup 2026: Teams qualified so far

Post half-time, Ecuador was also reduced to 10 men after Moisés Caicedo, the Chelsea star, was shown the second yellow card of the match. That allowed Lionel Scaloni to look for goals and somehow equalise.

At the one-hour mark, the Argentine boss brought Franco Mastantuono from the bench to replace Leandro Paredes.

What happened after that stunned the crowd and everyone watching the match as Mastantuono came out wearing the Jersey No.10 in the absence of Lionel Messi.

Messi, who started with the No.19 jersey for the Argentine senior team, did an outstanding job of justice to the famous No.10 jersey of Diego Armando, who everyone hails as one of the greatest to ever play the game.

Which No. Mastantuono wear for Real Madrid?

With Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham and other stars being there, Mastantuono had to choose a number like 30 for the Real Madrid team. He was brought to Real Madrid from River Plate with a huge transfer fee of €45.00m, which is one of the highest for a teenager ever.

Mastantuono, to date, has only played two games for Argentina and has yet to score or assist for the senior team. With Real Madrid, he has appeared only three times so far and has yet to register any goal contributions.
