A 7.2 magnitude struck Haiti this Saturday. More than 300 people have lost their lives. About 1800 are injured as well. Four-time Grand Slam Champion, Naomi Osaka's father hails from Haiti, the impoverished Caribbean island nation. Naomi Osaka has decided to donate the upcoming tournament prize money from the Western and Southern Open.

The 23-year-old announced on Twitter, "Really hurts to see all the devastation that's going on in Haiti, and I feel like we really can't catch a break. I'm about to play a tournament this week and I'll give all the prize money to relief efforts for Haiti. I know our ancestors blood is strong we'll keep rising."

She has used the platform to speak about her heritage previously. Recently, she visited Haiti in 2019 and said the event was a "humbling experience." Also, she used different platforms to call attention and awareness related to the causes she cares and feels secure about.
