Results from the first round of UEFA Champions League 2021-22

Round One of the UEFA Champions League has come to an end and we bring you the results of every fixture from matchdays 1 and 2.

After two exciting matchdays of the UEFA Champions League, the first round has come to an end. There have been several upsets as well as some exciting matches involving goals galore. SportzPoint takes a look at all the results after round one and the current standings of teams in each of the groups.

Group A:

  • Club Brugge 1-1 Paris Saint Germain
  • Manchester City 6-3 RB Leipzig

Club Brugge managed to hold off the dangerous PSG at their home. The Belgian side put up a show against the French giants and nearly pulled off an upset. The star-packed PSG team only managed to score once thanks to a beautiful assist from Mbappe and a brilliant finish from Ander Herrera in the 15th minute. However, they couldn't hold the lead against the all-out attack of Club Brugge and finally conceded in the 27th minute. Much to PSG's disappointment, the game ended 1-1 with both the teams sharing a point each.

Meanwhile, in the other fixture of Group A, both Manchester City and RB Leipzig put up a great show. The fans got full value of their ticket as they witnessed a 9 goal thriller. Christopher Nkunku scored a brilliant hat-trick but it wasn't enough to beat the home team at the Ethiad. Nathan Ake, Mahrez, Grealish, Cancelo and Gabriel Jesus were all on the scoresheet for City.

Group B:

  • Atletico Madrid 0-0 FC Porto
  • Liverpool 3-2 AC Milan

The group of death surely met the expectations after Liverpool beat AC Milan 3-2 in the UEFA Champions League group B fixture. However, the game between Atletico and Porto ended in a goalless draw which makes the group even more competitive.

Group C:

  • Borussia Dortmund 2-1 Besiktas
  • Ajax 5-1 Sporting CP

The two favourites of Group C started their campaign off with a win. Both Dortmund and Ajax put up a dominant display in their respective fixture, comfortably beating their opponents. Erling Haaland once again featured in the scoresheet in the 2-1 win over Besiktas. While the new arrival Miralem Pjanic of Besiktas registered an assist to his name. On the other hand, Ajax thrashed Sporting CP 5-1 on matchday 2.

Group D:

  • FC Sheriff 2-0 Shakhtar Donetsk
  • Inter Milan 0-1 Real Madrid

FC Sheriff was up to a great start in the UEFA Champions League after they registered a 2-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk. On the other hand, Real Madrid kicked off their campaign after they scored a late winner against Inter. Youngster Camavinga set up a great goal for Rodrygo in the 89th minute helping Madrid conquer Milan.

Group E:

Bayern Munich once again thrashed Barcelona but this time at their own backyard in Camp Nou. The German giants outplayed the Spanish team and scored three goals but conceded none. Although Bayern was a bit lucky with a couple of goals ending up in deflection, they opened up the Barca defence quite often by pressing hard. On the other hand, a goalless draw between Dynamo Kyiv and Benfica leaves Barcelona at the bottom of the table.

Group F:

  • Young Boys 2-1 Manchester United
  • Villareal 2-2 Atalanta

Young Boys win overshadowed Ronaldo's second UCL debut for Manchester United. However, a Red card in the 35th minute to Wan Bisaka made the Swiz boys' work somewhat easy. Although Cristiano Ronaldo broke the lock in the 13th minute, Young Boys equalised the score in the second half. A ten-man United was very close to share points however things didn't go as planned. A blunder miss-pass from Jesse Lingard in the 90+5 minute helped the opponents register a late winner.

Meanwhile, a 2-2 draw between the Europa League champs Villareal and an emerging Italian team Atalanta leaves the English giants at the bottom of the table.

Group G:

  • Lille 0-0 Wolfsburg

All four games of the UEFA Champions League Group G ended up in a draw. Spanish giants couldn't get over the line against Salzburg with the game ending in a 1-1 draw. On the other hand, French champions Losc Lille were part of a goalless draw with the German team Wolfsburg

Group H:

  • Chelsea 1-0 Zenit
  • Malmo FF 0-3 Juventus

The defending champions Chelsea kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 1-0 win over Zenit. Romelo Lukaku's header made the difference for the London club. Meanwhile, the Italian giants Juventus registered a comfortable 3-0 victory over Malmo FF with Alex Sandro, Dybala and Morata featuring in the scoresheet for the Old Lady.
